Mr. Avent died Friday night at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital
A native of Bolivar, he was born the son of the late James Robert Avent, Sr. and Alice Beatrice Vincent Avent. He was a 1950 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and moved to Memphis in 1953. He married the former Martha Frances Keeton on December 23, 1959. Mr. Avent had been a member of Parran's Chapel Baptist Church and served in the Tennessee National Guard as a military policeman. He retired from Kraft Foods (formerly known as HUMCO) in 1994 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert Daniel Avent and his wife, Mary, of Millington and James Timothy Avent and his wife, Dana, of Memphis; four grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby, Courtney and Michael Avent.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Avent was preceded in death by a son, Stephen L. Avent.
