Services for James Vernon Bates, 64, Florence will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Shackelford Funeral Chapel, Collinwood, TN with Robert Huffaker officiating. Interment following in Antioch Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-9:00 PM and Saturday, 11:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.Family will serve as pallbearers.A native of Florence, he died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. He was a son of George W. Bates of Florence and the late Virtie Pauline Smith Bates. He was preceded in death by wife, Gladys Bates and brother, Randy Bates. Mr. Bates was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army and a mechanic.Survivors, other than his father, include son, George (Stacey) Bates, daughters, Angela (Kevin) Kleine, Amanda (Paul) Potts all of Ocala, FL, and Amy (Patrick) Shannon, Bothell, WA;grandchildren, Dakotah, Madison, and Muriel Potts, Tyler, Lauren, and Hayden Kleine; brothers, G.W., Ed, and Tommy Bates all of Florence, and Paul Bates, Ocala, FL; sisters, Marilyn Riner, Connie Meadows, and Brenda Marks all of Florence, and Barbara Clemmons of Lexington, AL;several nieces and nephews
