Mr. James R. DeBerry, age 81 of Hornsby, passed Sunday morning, July 5, 2015 in Bolivar. Services will be Wednesday, July 8, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-8 PM and Wednesday from noon to 1 PM.
Mr. James Roy DeBerry was born September 7, 1933, to Rudolph and Gladys Ruth DeBerry, in Montezuma, TN. He married Elynor Hornsby on February 21, 1954. He was a retired national sales manager at Plough, inc. in Memphis for 24 years, and he was a salesman for Colgate. He was a former deacon of the Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, and was a deacon and Sunday school superintendent of the Hornsby Baptist Church. He graduated from Chester County High School. He enjoyed fly-fishing and bird hunting. He served in the Army National Guard. He lived in Memphis for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Elynor H. Deberry, of Hornsby; his two daughters, Sherry Cassidy(Drew) of Overland Peak, KS, and Gina Box of Hornsby; a son, James R. Deberry(Suzanne) of Collierville; three grandchildren, Ashley Cassidy, Lauren DeBerry, and Zach DeBerry; and a great-grandson, Eli DeBerry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph DeBerry and Gladys Ruth DeBerry; and a brother Kermit DeBerry.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to “Food for Friends” at the First United Methodist Church of Bolivar.
