James Nick (Jimmy) Dixon of Waynesboro, TN passed away Monday morning, March 4th at home with his family of an apparent heart attack at the age of 75. Resuscitative efforts were made by both Wayne County EMS and Wayne Medical Center but were unsuccessfull.
Jimmy was born at home in the Topsy community to Boyd and Shirley Dixon on June 26, 1937. He was married to Jeanine Beatty December 21, 1956.
He is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Mrs. Jeanine Beatty Dixon; eldest son, Nicky Dixon, wife Anita Dixon of Bath Springs, TN and their sons Seth Dixon and Ashton Dixon. Middle son Chris Dixon, wife Tammy Dixon of Waynesboro and daughter Allyson, stepson Austin Daniel and step daughter Elizabeth Daniel; youngest son David Dixon, wife Jennifer Dixon of Hendersonville, TN; also oldest daughter, Marisa Holt of Waynesboro, TN, her daughter, Jade Griggs and her son Ethan Lacher; youngest daughter, Anja Dixon Averett and husband Andrew Averett of Hohenwald along with their son Andrew Lucas Averett and daughter Allyson Averett. Great-grandchildren include Emma Dixon (daughter of Seth and Jessica), Peyton and Paizlee Griggs (son and daughter of Jade and Willie Griggs); sister Celia Ann Dixon Barnett and husband Allen of Waynesboro, TN.
Mr. Dixon was a lifelong resident of Wayne County. His employment includes
his years as an auctioneer, Waynesboro Telephone Company, now part of the Verizon network. Also he worked at Murray Ohio for 13 years followed by 24 years as Wayne County Court Clerk. Mr. Dixon was a staunch fan of U.T. football as well as Wayne County High School football. He was known as the "voice" of the Wildcats for more than thirty years. And as far as we know the only announcer in Tennessee high school football to actually draw a flag from the officials.
He will be surely missed by family and friends. He truly loved all the people
of Wayne County.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 6th at Wayne Furnace Church of Christ with Cary Crews and Bobby Pinckley officiating. Interment following at Waynesboro Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be March 5th and Wednesday, March 6th from 8:00-10 AM at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro. He will be placed in the church on Wednesday from 11:00 am until service time at 3:00.
