James Edward McCullar was born August 31, 1934 in Ramer, TN the son of the late Elmer McCullar and Ollie B King McCullar. He lived a full and vibrant life, marked by his deep connections to family and community.
On November 26, 1960, James united in marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Frances McCullar. Their love story was one of warmth and companionship that endured through the decades. Mary passed away on July 18, 2025.
James was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Selmer. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. He was known for his passions, such as tending to his yard, fishing, hunting, and his quiet pleasure in watching birds. Each activity reflected his appreciation for the beauty of nature and the simple joys of life.
James departed this life on October 26, 2025 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 91 Years, 1 Month, 26 Days.
He is survived by a daughter, Torie Scott and husband Bobby of Middleton, TN; son, Clay McCullar and wife Jennifer of Selmer, TN; grandchildren: Ashley Garrison and husband Shawn of Selmer, TN, Heather Blackburn and husband Justin of Brownsville, TN, Clay Robert McCullar and wife Keirstan of Savannah, TN; great grandchildren: Jonah Garrison, Bristol Garrison, Harper Blackburn, Seger Garrison, Taron McCullar, Stella McCullar and Kaceton Crain; sister-in-law, Virginia Sweat of CT, sister-in-law, Brenda Robbins of Selmer, TN; brother-in-law, J.R. Tull of Bethel Springs, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by Amy and Will Summers who raised him; three brothers: Charles, JB and Robert McCullar; and a sister, Gladys Barham.
