Obituary

James "Jimi" Earl Egbert, age 66, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. A resident of Adamsville, Tennessee, Jimi was born on March 5, 1960, on a Navy base in Hawaii to Eugene Egbert and Jane Kaetz Egbert. Born into a military setting, it was only fitting that Jimi later stepped up to serve his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life he carried with pride. Following his military service, he settled into a long-standing career as a truck driver for SMC Recycling, where his hard work and reliable nature were greatly valued. He was also a faithful member of the community and attended the Adamsville First Baptist Church.

On April 1, 1997, Jimi married the love of his life, Rebecca Downs. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, music, and devotion. Rebecca fondly remembers him not only as a wonderful husband and a deeply loyal friend, but as the absolute "best fisherman" who always knew exactly what was biting and where to find it. Beyond the water, Jimi was a man of many talents and interests. He loved spending time in the kitchen as a talented cook, had a soft heart and great love for animals, and was a lifelong, devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, proudly collecting their entire musical catalog.

Jimi was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Egbert. His memory will be forever cherished by his beloved wife of 29 years, Rebecca Downs of Adamsville, TN; his mother, Jane Greth, and husband Roger of Memphis, TN; his brother, Joel Egbert of Florida; and his aunt, Nancy Billingsly, and husband Jack of Red Banks, MS. Jimi’s kindness, his love for a good day on the lake, and his gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
