James Ellis Martin's Obituary

James Ellis Martin, a devoted family man and respected retiree of Murray Ohio Manufacturing Company, entered his eternal home on April 6, 2026, at Maury Regional Hospital in Columbia, Tennessee, following a brief illness. Born on February 26, 1939, in Collinwood, Tennessee, Mr. Martin lived a life marked by steadfast faith, dedication to his loved ones, and treasured pastimes.

James was united in marriage to Barbie Sue Young Daniels Martin on July 3, 1995, a union that brought much joy and companionship until her passing on February 25, 2019. Their bond was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting mutual respect and affection.

Throughout his life, James found solace and happiness in the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing, often spending warm days by the lake immersed in these beloved activities. His appreciation for nature and the outdoors was emblematic of a grounded and sincere spirit.

A man of Christian faith, James valued the strength and comfort that his beliefs provided throughout his journey. His commitment to faith and family were guiding principles that shaped his character and actions.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Mahon and Mary Newborn Martin, and siblings Betty Martin and Hetty Roberts. He also mourned the loss of his beloved wife, Barbie Daniels Martin, and stepson Bobby Daniel.

He is survived by his daughter, Tereasa Wright of Collinwood, Tennessee, and stepdaughter, Julie Daniels of Madison, Alabama, who carry forward his legacy with love and respect. James’s extended family includes his sisters—Annie Lineberry of Huntsville, Alabama; Mattie Hickerson and Nettie Sanderson, both of Collinwood; as well as Nell Daniels (JC) and Helen Daniel of Iron City, Tennessee. He also leaves behind his brothers Robert Martin and Tom Martin (Cecel), both of Collinwood. Numerous nieces and nephews also remember him fondly, reflecting the close-knit ties he fostered throughout his life.

Among his cherished step-grandchildren are Victoria Rhodes and Canadian Rhodes of Collinwood, along with Harley Sherron, Kyra Daniels, Talon Daniels, and Gunner Pearson, each holding a special place in his heart. Along with several nieces and nephews.

James Ellis Martin’s life was a testament to devotion—to family, faith, and the peaceful enjoyment of nature. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and enduring memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
