James Anthony
Grissom
August 24, 1954 – June 1, 2026
James Anthony Grissom was born on August 24, 1954, in Jackson, Tennessee, the son of the late James Roy and June Copeland Grissom.
He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary, on November 8, 1982, and together they shared many years of love, companionship, and treasured memories.
Tony dedicated much of his life to serving and protecting others. Before beginning his law enforcement career, he worked as a jailer. He later served as a police officer for more than 25 years, first with the Grand Junction Police Department and later with the Bethel Springs Police Department, where he faithfully served until his retirement. His commitment to his community, strong sense of duty, and willingness to help others earned him the respect of those who knew and worked alongside him.
Outside of his career, Tony had a deep appreciation for life and the outdoors. He loved traveling and especially enjoyed spending time in the mountains, where he found peace and beauty in nature. Fishing was one of his favorite pastimes, and he never passed up an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. He also enjoyed go-kart racing and the excitement it brought. Among the many things he loved, one of his greatest companions was his special dog, Ellie May, who held a cherished place in his heart.
Mr. Grissom departed this life on June 1, 2026, in Henderson, Tennessee, at the age of 71 years, 9 months, and 8 days.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Mary Grissom of Henderson, Tennessee; a daughter, Tammy J. Hatch of Selmer, Tennessee; two sons, Elvis G. Hatch of Selmer, Tennessee, and Thomas J. Hatch and wife, Kortney, of Ramer, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Mary Kilzer of Henderson, Tennessee; his beloved grandchildren; one precious great-grandchild expected soon; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by a son, James Dustin Grissom; two brothers, Dale Grissom and Boo Grissom; and two sisters, Pam Hand and Annette Dole.
Tony will be remembered for his dedication to public service, his love of the outdoors, his adventurous spirit, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a lasting legacy for all who knew him.
