James Jacob Halewas born in Iuka, Mississippi on June 20, 1916 the son of the late William Jacob and Ida Gortney Hale.On December 24, 1938 he was united in marriage to Thelma Smith, who survives.Mr. Hale was a former of Sheriff of Hardin County, serving from 1964-1970 and again in 1974-1976, he had also served as Hardin County Commissioner. Mr. Hale had lived in Hardin County since 1937 and had owned Hale's Service Station. He was US Navy Veteran serving in the South Pacific from 1943-1945, he was the Fleet Boxing Champion during W.W.II. Mr. Hale was a member of the East End United Methodist Church and the VFW.Mr. Hale departed this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at the age of 93 years, 3 months, 24 days.In addition to his wife, Mr. Hale is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Hale Jennings and husband David of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a granddaughter, Kristina Jennings Wait and husband Brian; a great-grandson, Elijah C. Wait; several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Mr. Hale was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Donie, Dora, Loder, and Deanie; 3 brothers, Jess, Robert, and Archie Hale.
