James Edward Hatch, age 77, passed away on July 11, 2026, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, after a lengthy illness. Born on March 21, 1949, in Chester County, Tennessee, James spent a lifetime exemplifying care, dedication, and kindness to all those around him.

James was the beloved husband of Mary Hatch, with whom he shared a rich and devoted partnership. He was also a cherished father to his son, Ray Hatch. His love for family extended deeply beyond his immediate household; he was a caring brother to Lyman Hatch and a supportive brother-in-law to Lynn. After his beloved fur baby Gizmo died, he extended his love for animals by adopting two more fur babies Boston and Coco. Those who survive James will forever hold onto the warmth and reliability his presence brought into their lives.

James was the treasured son of Cornice and Flora Mae Hatch, both of whom preceded him in death. His brother Mathias Hatch and sister Vera Harvell also passed before him. The loss of his beloved fur baby, Gizmo, is felt among those who knew how much joy he brought James.

Known for his appreciation of the outdoors, James found fulfillment and peace in nature. He was happiest with his hands in the soil, tending to flower beds and crafting beauty wherever he went. Whether working on a new project or meticulously nurturing a garden, James's devotion to making the world around him more lovely was evident to all who knew him. James had a passion for drag racing and had been looking forward to racing again if his health had allowed it.

James Edward Hatch’s years were marked with quiet achievement, generosity, grace and service. He courageously served a tour of duty in the Army during the Vietnam War and ministered in the health field as a Psychiatric Tech at Western State Mental Hospital for many years. He taught those around him the true value of courage, perseverance and the importance of finding joy in simple pleasures. His legacy lives on through his loved ones and in every place graced by his skillful hands.

He will be dearly missed but never forgotten by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
