James Ruben Highland departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 22 days. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on September 4, 1938, the son of the late Vernie and Bertha Austin Highland. On February 9, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lessie Cox, who preceded him in death on January 25, 2010.
James Ruben had worked at Aqua Glass for 24 years and was known to his coworkers as "Pop". He was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ. James was a outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a good father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Karen Highland and Connie Highland both of Savannah, Tennessee; granddaughter, Amber Dawn Highland; great granddaughters, Ambria Grace Deshazier and Ella Faith Deshazier; sisters, Lucille Highland, Beatrice Highland, Lois Highland, and Thelma Highland Bevis, all of Savannah, Tennessee; and brothers, Eugene Highland of Elkhart, Indiana, Charles Highland and David Highland, both of Savannah, Tennessee.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Wade Highland and sisters, Vella Mae Tilley, Flolla Qualls, and Geneva Poole.
