James Arthur (Jim) Horton was born July 29, 1941 in McNairy County, TN the son of the late J. R. and Trudie Blankenship Horton.
He was united in marriage to Ellen Sims on June 3, 1966.
Mr. Horton graduated from Ramer High School. Following graduation, he attended Memphis State and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. He received a Masters in Education Administration from Trevecca University. Mr. Horton coached basketball with Bear McClain and taught at Treadwell High School in Memphis. He also coached, taught, and served as an administrator at Corinth High School, McNairy Central High School, and Corinth Junior High School. During his tenure, Mr. Horton served as a Coach, Teacher, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and Principal, but coaching basketball was his first love. He was dedicated to education, believing it to be of utmost importance. He taught his players how to play, but most importantly, he taught them how they should live. Mr. Horton enjoyed raising vegetables and flowers in his garden, working on old clocks, and relic hunting with his son. He was an Elder for the Antioch church of Christ in Ramer.
Mr. Horton departed this life on February 7, 2014 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 72 Years, 6 Months, 9 Days. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen (Sims) Horton of Guys, TN; a son, Stacy Horton and wife Laura of Florence, AL; four grandchildren: Easton Horton, Allison Young, Chalie Horton, and Lyndsey Young; a sister, Barbara Tutor and husband Steve of Ramer, TN; nine brothers: Gerald Horton of Ramer, TN, Tommy Horton and wife Ruth of Ramer, TN, Benny Horton and wife Kay of Ramer, TN, Billy Horton and wife Ekaterina of Bethel Springs, TN, Douglas Horton and wife Peggy of Bartlett, TN, Eddie Horton and wife Ann of Selmer, TN, Larry Horton and wife Brenda of Ramer, TN, Stanley Horton of Ramer, TN, and Joe Horton and wife Pam of Ramer, TN; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Kay Bolino.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Horton may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Antioch church of Christ.
