James Clifford Isbell was born November 5, 1931 in the Woodville Community in Chester County, TN the son of the late Marcus Clyde and Essie Clark Isbell. He departed this life on Friday, December 18 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital at the age of 84 Years, 1 Month and 13 Days.
He married Mary Sue Naylor in October of 1952 and they made their home in Henderson, TN. Mary Sue preceded him in death on March 31, 2013 after 61 years of marriage. About the time he married, he began working at the Bemis Cotton Mill where he worked for 39 years until it closed. He was a Shop Steward and Union Leader at the mill. Later he worked as a security guard at the Regional Hospital in Jackson until 1999. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard for 12 years. In his early years he was very active in church work involved in preaching and teaching Bible classes. He also coached Little League baseball for many years. He loved being outdoors and staying busy. He had a passion for cars and especially loved his 1964 Ford Galaxy 500. He also enjoyed aviation and loved to watch planes and attend air shows. He was a great caregiver who took care of his mother-in-law Pauline Naylor for several years then also for his wife Mary Sue for several years before her death.
He married Glenda Wade in February of 2015. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henderson.
He is survived by his wife Glenda Isbell of Henderson; two sons Jim Isbell and wife Kathy of Evans, GA and Jeff Isbell of Henderson; a sister Doris Isbell Pickett of Henderson; four grandchildren Holly Isbell, David Isbell, Jeffery D. Isbell and Heather Isbell; two great grandchildren Cambryn Isbell and Marie Carlisle; and a sister-in-law Pamela Isbell.
In addition to his parents and first wife Mary Sue, he was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Douglas Isbell in February of 2011 and a brother-in-law Quay Pickett.
Funeral Services will be Monday, December 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Shackelford Funeral Directors-Johnson Chapel in Henderson with Mike Ulmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Friendship Cemetery near Finger, TN.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Johnson Chapel from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
