James Larry "Petticoat" Johnson

James Larry "Petticoat" Johnson was born on May 18, 1950 in Lutts, Tennessee. He was the last surviving child of the late David Johnson and Etta Bratton Johnson.

On May 14, 1972, he was united in marriage to Belinda Swift, who survives.

In his early years, he worked as a cook for Hagy's Catfish Restaurant and Ed Shaw's Restaurant. He loved to cook fish and hushpuppies for his family and friends as they would gather at his home or anywhere else he was invited. He was a truck driver for Savannah Foods for 36 years where he began dropping hushpuppies for them when they started their food business known as Hagy's Hushpuppies in the 1960s.

He enjoyed watching all sporting events, especially the ones his children and grandchildren were involved in. He also ran a cattle farm when he was home on weekends and his boys took over during the week while he was away.

James Larry "Petticoat" Johnson departed this life on April 20, 2024 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 2 days.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Belinda Swift Johnson; daughter, Cindy Qualls and her husband Todd; sons, Kevin Johnson and his wife Tracie, Blake Johnson and his wife Jessica, and Cory Johnson; 8 grandchildren, Brittany Cox and her husband Ethan, Jacob Qualls, Hanna Hill and her husband Justin, Tyler Johnson, McKenzie Johnson, Nicole Wint, Adley Johnson, and Cash Johnson; 7 great grandchildren with another one due in November of 2024; and a large extended family of Johnsons, Swifts, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Johnson, Elbert Johnson, Gary Johnson, Teddy Johnson, and Doyle Johnson; sisters, Dorthy Johnson, Marie DeBerry, and Glenda DeBerry; and grandson, Ryan Wint.

He will be missed by all of his family and friends that lovingly called him Husband, Daddy, Papaw, Petticoat and Hero.
