Born on January 19, 1943, in Bradford, AR, Jim was the son of the late James Warren and Ethel Lee Foust Helvering. Throughout his life, Jim made significant contributions to his community and was known for his dedication to helping others. His involvement in the community extended to various organizations, as he was a dedicated member of the Pinson Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge 485, Order of the Eastern Star, Woodmen of the World, and the Ham Radio Club in Henderson. A cancer survivor, Jim exemplified resilience and strength throughout his life.

He is remembered fondly by his wife, Carolyn; his son, Jack Helvering (Charlene) of Henderson; his stepchildren Johnny Ray O'Hara of Bolivar, Candice Marie Spence of Tampa, FL, and Michael O'Hara of Buffalo, NY; and his ten beloved grandchildren: Christopher “Dusty” Helvering, Shayna Page Helvering, Katelynn Helvering, Tyler Layne, Ashley Layne, Lacey Spence, Corey O’Hara, Sean O’Hara, Megan O’Hara, and Clover O'Hara. He also cherished his great-grandchild, Dallas Jiminez. Jim is survived by three brothers, William Helvering of Poplar Bluff, MO, Dave Helvering of Tull, AR, and Robert Helvering of Omaha, NE; and two sisters, Patricia Ann Graham of Bradford, AR, and Margaret Brinkey of Mt. Home, AR.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Ray Helvering; his second wife, Daisy Cox; a brother, John Helvering; and a nephew, Billy Helvering.
