James Elmer Lutts

January 23, 1918 — February 6, 2010

James Elmer Lutts was born January 23, 1918 on the farm in Lutts, TN where he lived all his life. He died Saturday at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, AL. An only child, he married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline Darby, October 10, 1937 who preceded him October 1, 1995. Two daughters were born to this union, Ann Townes (Billy) of Union City, TN and Gayle Hudson (Phillip) of Carthage, TN; grandsons, Bill (Martha) Townes, David (Kristi) Townes, all of Union City, TN, Carl (Anna) Hudson and Phillip (Alissa) Hudson all of Carthage, TN; great-grandchildren, Will Townes, Katie Townes, Jake Townes, and Davie Townes; and a special friend, Evelyn Morris.



A man of God, he considered his christianity as his main priority in life. A life long member of Lutts United Methodist Church, he served in all capacities of the church including Sunday school superintendent and as song leader for many years. He was a 32nd degree mason, serving in the Collinwood Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and 50 years in the Eastern Star. He also was a member of Al Menah Temple Shriners in Nashville.



Mr. Lutts was a lifelong farmer and operated a sawmill for many years. He was a dedicated member of Wayne County Farm Bureau, serving as vice president and president for 12 years and received Farm Bureau Farmer of the Year award. In later years he was elected as Circuit Court Clerk of Wayne County, holding that position for several years. He loved all his friends of Lutts community and considered them as his extended family.
