In Loving Memory of a Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather
With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. James E. (Butch) Marcum passed from this world on March 3, 2026, after an extended illness. As in life, Mr. Marcum left this world on his own terms, at home and surrounded by family. He was a man whose quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love shaped the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
As a husband, he demonstrated love through practical and simple gestures like building their home with his own hands and hard work to provide for his family. As a father, he led by example—teaching the value of honesty, hard work, a firm handshake, and an unwavering belief that your word is your bond no matter what the circumstance. His guidance was steady and reassuring, and his love was quiet and constant.
As a grandfather, he brought endless warmth and joy to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever remember his smiles and laughter, generousness and ability to spoil, and the way he made each of them feel special and loved. Time spent with him—whether sharing a meal, playing outside, going to town for a coke at the hardware store while he bought supplies, or simply sitting together—will become cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and family devotion. Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught and the love he gave will continue to guide those who knew him. His family finds comfort in knowing that his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the memories that will be treasured for generations.
He will be remembered always—with love, gratitude, and a smile.
