James Grady McGee

October 2, 1926 — February 9, 2015

James Grady McGee of Collinwood was born October 2, 1926 in Westpoint, TN the son of the late William Edd and Ollie Snowden Nelson McGee. Mr. McGee died Monday, February 9, 2015 at his home on Chalk Creek Road at the age of 88 Years, 4 Months, 7 Days. After high school he was inducted in the U.S. Army where he received the World War II victory medal. He was discharged May 11, 1946. After being discharged from the Army he was married to Wilma Leona Duren on December 24, 1948 and she preceded him in death June 29, 2014. Mr. McGee was a farmer, and formerly drove a truck for Shull Truck Line, was co-owner with Foy Williams of McGee and Williams Grocery Store and Waynesboro Grain and Elevator. He was best known for serving as Wayne County Trustee for 5 terms. Mr. McGee was civic minded, serving the community in the Rotary Club, Tennessee TOPS Program in Nashville, and was very active in the American Legion where he was instrumental in raising money for needy families at Christmas. For many years he served as Wayne County Veterans service officer, assisting veterans with their VA benefits. Also he was a member of Green River Tabernacle.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Wayne McGee and wife Shirley of Franklin, TN, a daughter, LaDonna McGee Weaver of Collinwood, TN, nine grandchildren, Jason Wayne McGee and wife Ashley, Jennifer Ann McGee, Thomas James (T.J.) Hornal and wife Andrea, Colby Jake Weaver and his wife Amber, Taylor Channing Weaver, Tanner Chance Weaver, Christian Isaiah Weaver, Carson Lee Weaver, Caden Elijah-McGee Weaver, five great grandchildren, Griffin Wayne McGee, Grady Byron McGee, James Harrison Trimmer, Maddie Grace Trimmer, and Quinn Leigh Hornal, a brother, Ralph McGee of Dayton, OH, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. McGee was preceded in death by brothers, William Ed McGee, Jr. Johnnie Lonzo McGee, and Ray Bill McGee, and sisters, Clara Bell Pyke and Maxie Caperton.

Services will be Friday, February 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Waynesboro with Larry Janes and Jim McGee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery near Westpoint, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 - 9:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
