His family was poor sharecroppers living all over Chester County before settling in the Deanburg Community around 1950 close to his grandfather Jack Deming and Uncle Willard Deming. James loved his family and was a hard worker helping to support them. He wanted a better life for them so at the early age of 17 he went to Chicago with some friends with a monetary donation from a cousin and friend, Will Harris. He had a hard time as you can imagine but he toughed it out and met a man that helped him get settled. As soon as he was able he came back to Tennessee to take his whole family with him to Chicago except Yvonne that had married and had a daughter. He furnished them housing, and all their other needs till they were able to get jobs, but was always there for them. He married the love of his life Joan early on and they were blessed by two daughters. Joan was an understanding wife, and helpmate for James. James loved country music, even writing some songs and poems. He won several awards on his poems and he was honored in Washington D.C. for one.
James was a hero to his family and everyone that knew him and of his devotion to his family is his Legacy.
