James "Jimmy" Nesbitt

James “Jimmy” Glenn Nesbitt was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on July 21, 1942, the son of the late Glenn Grimes Nesbitt and Arbie Lucile Godwin Nesbitt.

On January 1, 1983 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Janice Louise Gray, who preceded him in death on June 7, 2025.

Jimmy had a deep love for farming and found great joy in spending his days working on the farm he cherished. For many years, he devoted himself to growing row crops and raising hogs and cattle, alongside his brother, Charles. Farming was more than a way of life for him; it was a passion that brought him purpose, pride, and fulfillment. He took great satisfaction in caring for the land and livestock and was happiest when he was outdoors, tending to the farm. His dedication to farming and the simple, hardworking life it represented will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

In his free time, he loved spending time with his grandson, Will. To many, he was known as Jimmy, but to Will, he was Papa. His role as Papa was one of his greatest joys, and the bond he shared with Will will be remembered forever. One of their favorite shared hobbies was showing mules at the county fair, where Jimmy taught Will to have the same love for animals and the outdoors.

He is survived by his stepson, Jerone Trent Stricklin; and one grandson, William Trent Stricklin, both of Savannah, Tennessee; a sister, Doris Lucile Hughes of Adamsville, Tennessee; a brother, Charles Franklin Nesbitt (Beverly) of Savannah, Tennessee; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Hughes of Adamsville, Tennessee.

He was a faithful member of Mountain View Church of Christ in Savannah, Tennessee. His faith was an important part of his life, and he treasured the fellowship and friendships he found among his church family. He will be remembered for his quiet faithfulness and devotion to the church.

Jimmy departed this life at his home on September 8, 2026 at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 18 days.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Christie Hamm for her kindness and compassionate during Jimmy’s final months. Her care and companionship were a great comfort to him and his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Piney Grove Cemetery Fund or his beloved Mountain View Church of Christ in Savannah, Tennessee.
