James Allen Nutt, born on May 11, 1943, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, entered his eternal home on May 26, 2026, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. He was a dedicated factory worker for many years, retiring from Lincoln Brass, where his diligence and work ethic were a testament to his character. James was a devoted member of Waynesboro Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for many years.
James was a man who cherished his family deeply. He loved spending time with his children and treasured every moment with his grandchildren. Known for his enthusiasm for farming, tractors, and fishing, James found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a familiar and welcome presence at all family gatherings and took immense pride in attending every event involving his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving son Bobby Nutt and his wife Priscilla of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; his son Billy Nutt and his wife Jennifer of Waynesboro, Tennessee; and Jamie Noblit and her husband Kenneth of Waynesboro, Tennessee. He also leaves behind a brother, Jerry Wayne Nutt of Madisonville, Kentucky, and a sister, Judy Ann Jennings of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Bowling, Christopher Bowling, Lydia Bowling, Joshua Nutt, Wesley Nutt, Joelton Nutt, Johnathan Nutt, Breanna Nutt, Jayda Noblit, Spencer Noblit, and Johnathan Noblit; as well as 8 great-grandchildren. Along with several nieces and nephews who carry forward his legacy.
James was preceded in death by his spouse Barbara Anna Nutt, and daughter Jackie Nutt Bowling. His parents Grady Nutt and Irene Morgan Nutt; his stepfather James Horton; several brothers and sisters; one grandchild, Jordan Nutt; and two great-grandchildren.
James Allen Nutt’s life was marked by steadfast devotion to his church, his family, and his friends, as well as a deep commitment to helping others. Combined with a quiet passion for the rural life he loved, he will be remembered with respect and fondness by all who knew him.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 3pm. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, Visitation will be held on Friday May 29, 2026, from 6pm until 9pm and again on Saturday from 12pm until 3pm service time.
Pallbearers will be Joelton Nutt, Johnathan Nutt, Wesley Nutt, Joshua Nutt, Christopher Bowling and Matthew Bowling.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to The Butterfly Foundation (P.O. Box 212, Waynesboro, TN 38485) or the Wayne Furnace Church of Christ Mission Fund.
