James Roosevelt (Rosie) Shelton was born October 27, 1936 in McNairy County, the son of the late Marvin and Lottie Mae Smallwood Shelton. He departed this life on February 14, 2019 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 82 Years, 3 Months, 18 Days.
When Rosie started his career, it was at the old Latta building in Selmer. He then worked in Henderson, TN for George White cleaning and detailing cars. Eventually he owned his own business, but when he was unable to use a car buffer, he went to work at Selmer Pawn Shop. He enjoyed seeing all the people and making friends. He really liked working with the fireworks. He also served in the TN National Guard.
Rosie enjoyed going to car shows. The Buford Pusser festival was his favorite, since he and Buford were good friends. When Buford wanted his car detailed, he always got Rosie to do it for him.
Rosie also enjoyed going to the river and hearing the band, especially around Halloween which was his favorite time of the year. Halloween was his birthday party and he really enjoyed the costumes every year. If you knew Rosie, you know he thoroughtly enjoyed Halloween and the boys in the band.
On Sundays he watched preaching, then Nascar, his favorite passtime. Rosie raced cars back in the day. He loved everyone's kids. When a child would call him "Uncle Rosie", it made him smile!
Rosie loved animals as much as humans, sometimes more. He had a loving heart. If he loved you, you had a good friend. He loved his caregivers at Adamsville Healthcare. His handshake was always firm, as was his belief in God.
He is survived by two daughters, Tina Rose Goodman and husband Tom, and Diana Rose Shelton; special children: Stanley Wilson, Kim, Lauren, Christina, Cheryl and Mike; nine grandchildren: Randy, Tyler, Sadie, Emma, Logan, Helana, Tommy, Amy, and Brian; three great grandchildren: Brayden, Ryder, and Ivey Rose; a sister, Evelyn King and family; sister-in-laws: Jean Shelton and family, Sandra McKinney and family, Genelle Shelton and family; as well as many special friends whom he loved very much and was grateful to have been blessed to have in his life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a son, James R. Shelton Jr.; and three brothers: Gene, Paul and Thomas Shelton.
