James Auther Smith was born October 7, 1938 in Bethel Springs, Tennessee the son of the late Lee Roy and Lora Luttrell Smith.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Loudine Vires in September of 1955. Dorothy preceded him in death on June 15, 1994. On November 18, 1994, he was united in marriage to Annie R. Hensley Wallis.
Mr. Smith was a farmer and was employed for 23 years at Brown Shoe Company as a rougher. He also worked for Kolpak in Selmer, installing parts for refrigeration units. Mr. Smith served his state and country as a member of the Tennessee National Guard, and was a member of the Butler's Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith departed this life on July 10, 2010 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 71 Years, 9 Months, 3 Days. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Annie R. Smith of Ramer, TN; a daughter, Debra Gayle Smith of Bethel Springs, TN; three sons: Michael Smith and wife Dianne of Bethel Springs, TN, Randall Dewayne Smith and wife Teresa of Ramer, TN and Timothy F. Smith of Adamsville, TN; a step-daughter, Teresa Smith and husband Randall of Ramer, TN; two step-sons: Anderson H. (Andy) Wallis and wife Melody of Corinth, MS and Charles Adam Wallis of Guys, TN; two grandchildren, James Austin Carrier and Cody Smith; seven step-grandchildren: Amber Nichole Rutledge, Jonathan Michael Childress, Kristy Ann Wilcox, William Kasey Wallis, Amelia Howell, Benjamin Guy Wallis, and Sarah Grace Wallis; a step-great-grandchild, Charles Lee Wilcox III; three sisters: Velma Gettle of Bethel Springs, TN, Bessie Williams and husband Warren of Bethel Springs, TN, and Loreen Henry of Henderson, TN; a brother, Kenneth Smith and wife Marilyn of Bethel Springs, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a step-son, Michael Clifton Wallis.
