Funeral services for Mr. James Stack, 88, of Bolivar, are Tuesday at 1:00 pm, graveside at Silerton Baptist Cemetery in Silerton. He passed from this life on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Stack was born October 25, 1928 in Madison County, the son of the late Alfred A. and Esther Anne Callis Stack. Most of his life was spent in the Silerton area of Hardeman County.
He served his country in the US Army from 1951-52 in Germany and was in the Army Reserve until 1956. On Friday, March 26, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Wilson Stack, who survives. Mr. Stack worked for Bolivar Milling Co. for 27 years and Grand Valley Lakes Golf Course from 1987-2001. A member of the Silerton Methodist Church, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golf, woodworking, building furniture and horse racing especially watching the Kentucky Derby.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves his daughter, Deborah Ruth "Debbie" Leathers and her husband, Gary, of Bolivar; his son, James Curtis Stack and his wife, Christy, of Bolivar; his sister, Doris Stallings of Memphis; five grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Leathers, Jordan Stack and his wife, Mallory, Lindsey Workmon and her husband, Greg, Adam and David Craft; one great-grandson, Everett Joseph Workmon; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margie Davis, Ruby Eliff and Anne York; and six brothers, Thomas, Howard, William, Wilton, Raymond and Curtis Stack.
