Mr. Porter passed away Wednesday morning at Adamsville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Middleton, he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Fannie Lou McKeown Porter. Mr. Porter served his country in the US Army during World War II and Korea. He retired from military service as a supply sergeant with the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years and earned two bronze stars for his service. From 1960-1982, he worked in civil service at Ft. Benning, GA. He was a Mason for fifty years and loved bowling, gardening, and any type of housework. He liked to make sure others were taken care of. Jamie was from Hardeman County, moved to Columbus, GA, in 1960 after being discharged, and returned to Hardeman County in 2010.
He is survived by two sisters, Margie Burnette of Saulsbury and Zueline Brooks of Pocahontas; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ross Porter; three sisters, Lillian Lanier, Phyllis Hillhouse and Willie Mae Lanier; and two brothers, Cecil and George Porter.
