Jan Joseph Pontiff

Jan Joseph Pontiff was born in Houma, Louisiana on January 8, 1959, the son of the late Joseph Junius and Betty Trahan Pontiff.

On February 24, 1979, he was united in marriage to Vickie Marie Chauvin, who survives.

Jan spent most of his life in Southern Louisiana, where he worked as a production operator for Wood Group. Outside of work, he found great joy in the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, spending time on the boat, and tending to his garden. One of his favorite places to be was on the beach. Above all, Jan treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his children and his grandchildren.

Jan Joseph Pontiff departed this life on Monday, July 13, 2026, in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 67 years, 6 months, and 5 days.

In addition to his wife of 47 years, Vickie Pontiff, he is survived by his children, Jed Pontiff and Melanie Pontiff Pellegrin; sisters, Rhonda Dixon (Don) and Nancy McGee (Danny); and his grandchildren, Shelby Bergeron, Sebastian Pontiff, Elijah Pontiff, Marie Pontiff, Rose Pontiff, Ruth Pontiff, Joshua Pontiff, Brenna Pellegrin, Logan Pellegrin, Wyatt Pellegrin, and Pyper Pellegrin.

Jan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Betty Pontiff, and one brother, Fred James Pontiff.
