Janice J. Reed was born on January 4, 1939, to Reverend and Mrs. V.A. Smith of Adamsville, Tennessee, and she passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 6, 2023, at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ferrell Vincent Smith, her parents, V.A. and Beatrice Smith, her husband, Carl Whitlow, and her son, Mark Vincent Whitlow-Reed. Janice is survived by her sister, Fredia, and brother-in-law, Bruce Bolinger, and by her daughter-in-law, Diana, and her grandchildren, Alyssa Reed and Marcus Reed (Jaisa)  .

After graduating from the University of Memphis Lambuth, Janice taught at Hardin County High School, her alma mater, in Savannah, Tennessee. She served as secretary for Hardin County Teacher’s Association and secretary for Hardin County Board of Education. 

Janice married her high school sweetheart, Carl E. Whitlow, in June 1959. They were blessed with a son, Mark, in April 1964.

Throughout her life, Janice continued her love for education and teaching while working in many churches in several different states.  In her retirement years, she had many piano students whom she loved.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Crump Cemetery in Crump, Tennessee. Final Arrangements are provided by Shackelford Funeral Directors, Savannah, Tennessee.
