Janice May Johnson Balentine

Janice May Johnson Balentine, age 72, of Cypress Inn, TN, departed this world on Sunday, August 24, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Walker and Margaret Bratton Johnson. Janice's life journey was beautifully intertwined with love when she married Edwin Eugene Balentine on December 20, 1970.

A dedicated worker, Janice spent many years of her life contributing her efforts at Kay Winsor Manufacturing and later at Angelica Manufacturing Company, where she ultimately retired. Her strong connection to her faith was evident in her long-standing membership at Johnson’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, and later, at Fairview Baptist Church.

Janice's passions were many—she found joy in the gentle art of gardening, where her flower gardens bloomed vibrant with color. She loved to cast a line into the water while fishing, filling her days with peace and tranquility. Her kitchen was a special place, filled with the delicious scents of her cooking, where countless memories were made over shared meals with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin Eugene Balentine of Cypress Inn, TN; son, Sonny James Balentine (Becky) of Cypress Inn, TN; daughter, Margaret Cher “Sissy” Briley (Michael) of Lutts, TN; grandchildren, Carmen Balentine (Skyler) and Tessa Holder (Cable); and great grandchildren, Daniel Skaggs, Walker James Skaggs, and LeLand Stratton Lane Skaggs; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by brothers, Johnny Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Robert Johnson, and William Johnson; sisters, Louise White, Beatrice Porter, Gloria Fisher, and Mary Walker Martin; and infant sisters, Nany Johnson, and Patricia Johnson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm service time at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Collinwood, TN with Gerald Montgomery officiating. Burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Cypress Inn, TN.
