Janice Matlock was born on May 26, 1945 in Alcorn County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late John Spiller and Ruby Crotts Prince Spiller.
On June 4, 1965 she was united in marriage to Carl Joe Matlock, who preceded his wife in death on March 19, 2007.
Mrs. Matlock worked in assembly at Brown Shoe Company and lived in Hardin County all of her life. She was a member and secretary of Church on the Rock in Savannah, Tennessee. Janice was always thinking of others and never wanted anything for herself. She enjoyed her church work, playing piano, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed sports and the Atlanta Braves and Memphis Grizzlies were two of her favorite teams. She loved helping raise her granddaughter, Kendra Leigh. She enjoyed teaching Kendra about Jesus and taught her about communion. Janice and Kendra would often have communion together. Kendra recently told her other family members that she would not be able to have communion now, because her Nana would not be there.
Janice Matlock departed this life on November 22, 2016 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 71 years, 5 months, 27 days.
She is survived by her daughter Kelly Hobbs, and her husband David, of Savannah, Tennessee; son, Kenneth Matlock of Adamsville, Tennessee; and granddaughter, Kendra Leigh Matlock.
