Janie Palmer

Eads, TN: Janie Maybelle Palmer, age 81, died Thursday morning, August 10, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett.

She was born in Dancyville, TN on August 17, 1941, daughter of the late Harry F. and Janie Tennessee Cleek Martin. She grew up in Finger, TN and attended Chester County High School.  She later took some college courses.

She married Boyd McCulley in 1961 and they made their home in Williston, TN in Fayette County and had one son, Michael McCulley. Mr. McCulley preceded her in passing on November 5, 1976, after 16 years of marriage. She later married Danny Wiggins and they made their home in Oakland, TN and had a son Christopher Wiggins. She later married Durrance “Bud” Palmer on March 22, 1990. Mr. Palmer preceded her in death on January 29, 2019, after 29 years of marriage.

During her working career she worked at Somerville Manufacturing for 22 years, then 10 years at Brother Industries before finishing out her career at Kellogg's retiring in 2014 after 16 years.

She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, was an excellent seamstress and quilter, and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and riding motorcycles.

She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and was a member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael W. McCulley (Sherry) of Eads, Christopher A. Wiggins of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; two brothers Clifford Martin of Brownsville, Earl Martin of Mississippi; and a sister Betty Ann Thomas (Don) of Henderson.

She was preceded in death by her three husbands, three brothers James Martin Jr., George Martin, and Roy Martin and four sisters Helen Leak, Myrtle Johnson, Lucy Moody, and Rebecca Simpson.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the Morris Chapel Baptist Church, 475 Feathers Chapel Drive, Somerville, TN with Bro. Billy Adair officiating.
