J. W. "Jaybird" Short, 56, died Wednesday morning, December 16, 2015 at his home in Mesa, Arizona.
Graveside services were held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at West Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Dennis Callahan officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar provided the professional arrangements.
He was born in Bolivar, Tennessee on October 7, 1959 to Carol Barnett and Jack Short. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marcia Short. Jay also left behind three children, Nicole (Brian) Wibel of Glendale, Arizona, Shelly (Scuba) Beckman of Peoria, Arizona, and Ricky Short of Mesa, Arizona. He is survived by his mother, Carol Barnett of Bolivar; two brothers, Dick Short of Trenton, and Wayne (Cathy) Short of McDonald; and three sisters, Kathy Short of LaMirada, California, Jackie Alcarez of Lancaster, California, and Ginger Short of Bolivar. He also leaves his beloved pets, Jackjack and Sam.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Short; two brothers, Rick Short and Mike Short; and his grandparents, Katherine & Vernon Pierce of Saulsbury, and Mary Lou & Rube Short of Bolivar.
Jay was a steel builder prior to his long-term illness. He enjoyed watching the Diamond Backs, fishing, and car racing.
