J.D. Byrd was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on December 16, 1937, the son of the late Bart Wayne and Onie Irene Luttrell Byrd. On August 10, 1957 he was united in marriage to Nina Nell Plunk, who survives.
J. D. worked for over 20 years for the State of Tennessee in maintenance at the Pickwick Golf Course. He was an avid fisherman, also working for some time as a commercial fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and also working with pecan trees, of which he had a stand of nearly 40 trees in his own private grove. He was of the Church of Christ belief.
J. D. departed this life on August 30, 2018 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 14 days.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is survived by: a daughter, Sherry Garner and her husband Guy of Counce, Tennessee; a son, Jimmy Wayne Byrd of Counce, Tennessee; a sister, Wilma Szydlowski of Counce, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Casy Garner and wife Tiffany, and Kevin Garner and wife Keysha; and two great-grandchildren, Bryson Moore and Alyssa Garner.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother, Lowell Byrd.
