JEAN MULLINS MURLEY
Henderson: Shelby Jean Mullins Murley, age 73, died Monday afternoon July 26, 2010 at Jackson General Hospital.
Mrs. Murley was born and reared in Madison County near Medon the daughter of the late James Walter “Red†and Grace Collins Mullins. She graduated from Malesus High School in 1955 and married Charles E. Murley in 1958. They made their home in Memphis where she worked in the medical field at Baptist Hospital for 24 years. She also co-owned and operated a florist from 1981 to 1982. She and Mr. Murley retired in 1983 and moved to Deanburg, what she referred to as paradise.
She was a member and very active in the Bethel Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was involved in the church’s outreach program.
She was an avid U. T. fan and was a lover of children and was known as Mama Jean to all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Charles Edward Murley of Deanburg, and a brother David Mullins and wife Connie of Medon. She was preceded in death by a brother Sammy Leon Mullins and a sister Evelyn Vernon.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. Ron Davis, Bro. Mike Stover, Bro. Paul Roden, and Bro. William Conlee officiating and burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford – Casey Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Murley will lie in state at the church beginning at 1:00 PM Wednesday.
