Jean Murley Simpson

Mrs. Simpson, 89, of Middleton, departed this life Monday evening, November 11, 2019 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.

She was born in Hornsby, TN, the daughter of the late Neely Jefferson and Eva Maude Sain Murley and lived most of her life in Hardeman County. She married Mr. Robert Harold Simpson on November 10, 1946 and they had been married for 33 years at the time of his death on June 13, 1980. She was a member of the Middleton First United Methodist Church.

Devoted to homemaking and family, she loved the holidays each year, Thanksgiving and Christmas, when she would cook for her family from the recipes she had collected throughout her life. She was one who cherished times of harmony and, even through her illness, was selfless and considerate of others. She loved her hometown of Middleton where she would spend time around town visiting with others. She was especially fond of playing with her grandchildren.

She leaves two daughters, Elizabeth (Kenneth) Lanier of Middleton and Brenda (Byron) Moss of Moscow, TN; ten grandchildren, Todd, Landon and Heath Lanier, Chris (Mindy), Lance and Ryan (Misty) Moss, Dana (Mark) McCaskill, Ami Darling, Kristy Kennamore and Shannon Simpson; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Harold Grady "Sonny", Robert Keith and Larry Wayne Simpson; three sisters, Freda Jenkins, Joan Williams and Britty Murley; and three brothers, Jerome, James and Ezekiel Murley.
