Jerry Mayfield, Sr., a treasured figure in the lives of many, was born on April 11, 1942, in the charming town of Bolivar, Tennessee. A soul of distinct purpose and warmth, Jerry embraced life with an enthusiasm that was reflected in the ways he cared for others, both personally and professionally. After dedicating over 16 years working as a psychiatric technician at Western Mental Health Institute, he retired knowing he had made a significant impact on many lives.
His passing on July 13, 2025, marked the end of a remarkable journey, leaving behind an enduring legacy woven with family, faith, and cherished memories. Jerry was a devoted member of Shandy Baptist Church, having been baptized on September 15, 1958. His faith guided him throughout his life, shaping him into the loving family man he was.
Jerry’s passions were many, each adding color to the rich tapestry of his existence. He had an insatiable love for travel, exploring new places and creating memories with those he loved most. He held a particular fondness for owls and old cars, treasures that echoed his appreciation for nature and History alike. Whether casting a line on a peaceful fishing excursion or sharing stories of his adventures, Jerry found joy in simplicity and connection.
He is survived by a devoted family who will carry his spirit forward. His sons, Jerry Mayfield and Donna of Bolivar, Robert and Joyce Mayfield of Bells, and Christopher and Rachel Mayfield of Lamar, Colorado, along with his grandchildren—Bradley, Loni, Allie, Bryant, Diamond, Christian, Dallas, and Ashley—will treasure his memory. Additionally, he leaves behind six great-grandchildren to whom he imparted wisdom, laughter, and love.
Though grief tinges the hearts of those he leaves behind, it is but a reflection of the deep love shared during his lifetime. Jerry's memory will be honored during a visitation at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar on July 16, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and again on July 17, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. He will then be interred in the serene surroundings of Ebenezer Cemetery in Toone at 11:45 AM.
Jerry Mayfield, Sr. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Faye Simpson Mayfield, as well as his father, Robert "Bob" Mayfield; mother, Mary Wiggins Mayfield; and brothers—Curtis "Bud," Ernest, and Bobby Gene Mayfield. Their absence is felt profoundly, yet they remain forever intertwined in his rich narrative.
