Jerry M. Smith, 78, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at River Terrace Health & Rehabilitation Center in Covington.
He was born January 4, 1939, to the late Montell Smith and Alma Saulsbury in Ripley, TN. and graduated from Ripley High School. On June 21, 1963, he married Lynwood Moore Smith and was retired from sales in 2013 after fifteen years of working with Acosta Food Sales, and also worked for Sherman Williams Paints. Jerry was a member of East Side Baptist Church for 41 years, serving 32 years as a deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent for 21 years and was currently a member of Hickory Withe Baptist Church. A veteran of the US Army, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching his grandchildren play ball. He loved to travel, loved the Lord, and loved his church family. He moved to Memphis from Ripley in 1957, where he lived for 39 years before moving to Somerville in 1996.
Survivors are his wife, Lynn Moore Smith of Somerville, TN; a son, Keith Smith (Rhonda) of Coldwater, MS; a sister, Ann Mills of Ripley, TN; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Smith of Ripley, TN; and four grandchildren, Cooper, Caleb, Colton, and Claire Smith of Coldwater, MS. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John W. and Donald R. Smith.
