Jewell H. Deming, 93, of Bolivar, died Tuesday morning, August 11, 2009 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Born March 30, 1916 to Solomon B. and Florence Alabama "Bama" Varnell Howell, she was a graduate of Lauderdale County (Alabama) High School, class of 1934. She was married to the late Winfred Herschel Deming who passed away March 23, 1969, was a homemaker, loved cooking, sewing, fishing and all college sports as well as spending time with family at gatherings. She had Jewell's Cloth Shop for 20 years, worked at Walmart for 10 years and was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane Gates (husband John Rex) of Bolivar; her son, Tommy Deming (wife Virgie) of Saulsbury; a sister Helen Trousdale of Rogersville, AL; three sisters-in-law Nela Howell of Rogersville, AL, Sara Sipes of Bolivar, and Mary Deming of Medon; six grandchildren, Brad and Chris Deming, Tracye Deming Simmons (husband Fred), Shawn Woods (wife Jennie), Shannon Woods (special friend Steve C. Walker, III), and Shea Woods (wife Tootie); seven great grandchildren, Brandy, Kristopher, Zach and Shelby Woods, Marley Simmons, and Taylor and Chevis Deming; 2 great-great grandchildren, Austin and Kyle Roberts; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by four sisters Myrtle Goodman, Margaret Neil Grisham, Gertie Snoddy, and Myrtie Weathers; three brothers, Buster, Luster and Jullian Howell; a brother-in-law Henry Trousdale and a great grandchild, Leslie Diane Deming.
