Obituary

Jim Rickman was born on March 26, 1945, in Corinth, Mississippi to the late Edison and Martha Breedlove Rickman. He passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, at the age of 80 years.

Throughout his life, Jim was dedicated to his family, his friends, and his community. He was united in marriage to Betty Wagoner for over 50 years. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2024. Together, they shared a life enriched by love and family.

Shortly after graduating from Michie High School, Jim moved to Memphis, where he worked in finance while attending the Midsouth School of Banking. He later returned to McNairy County, first working at First National Bank and ultimately retiring as President of Home Banking Company in Selmer, Tennessee. His career was marked by an unwavering commitment to public service. Jim served in the US Army Reserves, as county commissioner, and as a member of the McNairy County economic and development commission. Jim also held leadership positions with the Rotary and Jaycees and served on numerous boards.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jim was deeply involved in the lives of his family. He took great pride in coaching his son’s Little League team and participating in the Boy Scouts of America throughout his formative years. He also enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, and later cherished his time with his two grandchildren, Michael and Robbie. They will remember him as a constant source of support, guidance, and kindness in their lives. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Selmer, Jim’s faith was important to him. He embodied the virtues of compassion and community service and enjoyed fellowship with others.

Jim is survived by his son, Jeff Rickman (Jill) of Atlanta, Georgia; his grandsons, Michael and Robert Rickman, also of Atlanta; two sisters, Diana Griffin of Michie, Tennessee, and Donna Nelson (Barry) of Russellville, Kentucky; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
