Jimmy Boyd, a beloved son, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, in Bolivar, Tennessee, at the age of 81. Born on October 12, 1944, in Hardeman County, Tennessee, Jimmy’s life was one rooted in family, hard work, and a passion for the outdoors.
Throughout his career, Jimmy's dedication shone brightly as he served as a lineman for Bolivar Electric, and contributed his skills to the Kennedy Space Center. He was also proud to hold the position of director of safety for IVH Smith. His commitment to his work was matched only by his love for his family and friends.
Jimmy had many interests that enriched his life. He enjoyed watching football and all sports passionately and had a special love for hunting and fishing during his younger years. Later on, he took up golfing, which brought him joy and relaxation. More than just a sports enthusiast, he was a great brother—a kind soul who loved everyone around him. He was especially cherished by his sister Linda, to whom he willingly provided support during her absences.
After spending over 25 years in Florida, Jimmy returned to Hardeman County, where he continued to make lasting memories with his family. His legacy will endure through his two sons, Ryan Boyd and Rhonda of Bolivar, and Chris Boyd of Rock Ledge, FL, his daughter Brittni Lavine of Tampa, FL, his sister, Linda Fay Plunk and James E. of Henderson and his brother, Roy Franklin Boyd of Decaturville, as well as his seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They will carry forward the warmth and love that he shared so generously throughout his life.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, Willie Raymond Boyd and Virginia Frances Sneed Boyd, who undoubtedly shaped the compassionate man he became. His military service in the US Air Force for four years instilled in him values of discipline and community service that he lived out daily.
A memorial service honoring Jimmy's life will be held on November 14, 2025, at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar, beginning at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at Noon. All who knew and loved him are invited to celebrate his remarkable journey and the touch he left on each of their lives.
As we bid farewell to Jimmy Boyd, we remember him not just for his accomplishments, but for the love he shared, the laughter he spread, and the family he cherished. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
