Jimmy A. Mitchell

September 16, 1943 — January 24, 2026

Savannah

Jimmy Allen Mitchell, age 82, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 16, 1943, Jimmy lived a life marked by faith, humility, and devotion to those he loved most.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus Hardin Mitchell and Mary Marine Willis Mitchell. He is survived by his beloved wife and lifelong partner, Carolyn Gale Mitchell, with whom he shared over 57 years of marriage after being united on June 7, 1968. Their marriage was a true testament to commitment, respect, and enduring love. One built on quiet strength, shared laughter, and unwavering support.

Jimmy was a devoted father to his two daughters, Christie Mitchell Patton (Charles) and Cynthia Mitchell Hughes (Steve). He was endlessly proud of the women they became and loved them with a steady, reassuring presence that never wavered. His greatest joy in life was his grandchildren — his cherished “girls” — Mary Katelyn Bumphus (LaTrell), Callie Davis (fiancé Adam Wilkerson), Halle Grace Patton, and Emma Patton. He adored them deeply and found his happiest moments simply watching them grow, always ready with a gentle smile, a soft laugh, or a word of encouragement.

A faithful member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Jimmy served as a former elder and lived his faith not loudly, but sincerely through kindness, dependability, and a servant’s heart. He was also a proud member of the Pickwick Anglers and enjoyed many peaceful hours fishing, a pastime that reflected his calm spirit and love for simple joys. He gave back to his community as a former Hardin County School Board member, believing deeply in responsibility and service.

Jimmy dedicated more than 40 years of his life to working at the PCA, providing faithfully for his family and setting an example of what it means to work hard, stay humble, and do what needs to be done. He was known as an extremely hard worker, a quiet provider, and a man whose word could always be trusted.

Those who knew Jimmy will remember his gentle and calm demeanor, his sweet nature, and his understated sense of humor. He never sought attention, but his presence brought comfort and stability to everyone around him. He loved deeply, lived simply, and gave generously of himself.

Above all else, Jimmy Allen Mitchell was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose legacy lives on through the family he loved so fiercely. His life was a quiet testimony of faith, hard work, and unconditional love. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16
