JIMMY TALLEY MORRIS
Jackson, TN: Jimmy Talley Morris age 80 passed away Tuesday morning August 9, 2016 at Maplewood Healthcare Center in Jackson.
He was born June 6, 1936 in Chester County, the son of the late James Thomas (Tom) and Barbara Exie Talley Morris. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1955, attended Freed Hardeman Junior College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Union University and Master’s Degree in education from Memphis State. He married Marna Jane Queen of Bethany, IL in 1957.
He started his career teaching one year at Old Friendship in Chester County before moving to Madison County. He taught at Huntersville Elementary and several other schools and retired from Beech Bluff Elementary School having served as Principal in the Madison County School System for thirty one years. He was a member of the TEA and the NEA and had served as President of the Madison County Education Association.
He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Jackson. He was very involved in Inter Denominational work with the Cumberland Presbyterian Churches. He loved his church work.
Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Marna Jane Queen Morris of Jackson; a daughter, Tamara Jane Gulley and husband Mac of Memphis and a son, James Kenneth Morris and wife Janice of Jackson; one grandchild; one great grandchild and one sister, Tommye Jean Patterson of Henderson.
Important caregivers in his life were, Alta J. Marshall, Leroy Chatman, Rose McLemore, Debra Perry, Katherine Johnson and the staff of Maplewood Healthcare.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas Michael Morris in August 1984; a grandson, Jason Morris and a sister, Wanna Mae Tarpley.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 12, 2016 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Terry Hunley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Friday at Casey Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1730 Hwy 45 By pass, Jackson, TN 38305 or the Cumberland Presbyterian Children’s Home, Denton, TX.
