JO MATTINGLY

New Albany, MS: Betty Jo Hill Mattingly, age 86, passed away June 23, 2025, at Magnolia Place Assisted Living in New Albany, MS.

She was born October 31, 1938, in Hardeman County, the daughter of the late Otis Henry and Ophia Myrtle Hatch Hill.

She worked at The Boot Center in Memphis for thirty years, while working there she met and later married, Robert Mattingly in 1982, and they made their home in Memphis. They were married forty-one years when Robert preceded her in death in 2023.

She was a very kind generous person who was always ready to help family and friends when needed.

She had a strong faith in God and enjoyed worship services.

Mrs. Mattingly is survived by two sons, Larry Murphy (Becky) of Oakland, TN and Michael Lee Murphy (Karen) of Pensacola, FL and a daughter, Aletha Darlene Murphy of Ripley, MS; four grandchildren, Jamie Shaw (Stuart), Jacob Murphy, Matthew Murphy (Kimberly) and Reba Holbrook and six great grandchildren, Sawyer Shaw, Adalyn Shaw, Chance Shaw, Melody Murphy, Alexander Banda and Luca Banda; one brother, James Hill of Heber Springs, AR and two sisters, Faye Williams of Memphis and Judy McCage of Somerville, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Wilford Hill and Lloyd Hill and five sisters, Elsie Mitchell, Rosaline Knipper, Bernise Dillingham, Frances Kocher and Alice Mosier.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 27th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Bolivar Chapel with Randy Mead officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Bolivar Chapel 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM service time on Friday.
