JOAN BROWN
Henderson, TN: Brenda Joan Conner Brown, age 71 passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2014 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
She was born in Bessemer, AL and grew up in Mobile, AL the daughter of the late James E. and Ruth Fell Conner. She graduated from Theodore High School in Mobile and later took some college courses at Freed-Hardeman University. She married Bobby J. Brown in 1960. They made their home in Vicksburg, MS for thirty years where Bob worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. They moved to Henderson in 1995 for Bob to teach pre-engineering at Freed-Hardeman University.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Freed Hardeman Associates, the Ingleside/Pentagon Club and supported all the Lions Club activities. She and Bob were honorary grandparents to the Freed-Hardeman students. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Bobby J. Brown of Henderson; a son, J. Scott Brown of Dallas, TX and a daughter, Robin Danae Halford of Corpus Christi, TX; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Denise Ferguson and a grandson, Cole Ferguson in 2011.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at the Henderson Church of Christ with Ben Flatt, Roy Sharp and Billy Smith officiating and burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM at the church.
