Joanne Naylor
Carroll
Dec 25, 1937 — Jul 8, 2026
Michie
Joanne Naylor Carroll, age 88, passed peacefully in her Michie, Tennessee home on July 8, 2026. She was born on Christmas Day in 1937 in Stantonville, TN.
The eldest of five girls, Joanne grew up in the Finger and Guys communities of McNairy County and attended Michie School. She was married to her late husband, Joe Carroll, for 54 years; together they raised two sons, Frank Carroll and wife Cynthia of Michie, Tennessee and Brian Carroll and wife Rebecca of Lafayette, Louisiana. A loving and attentive mother, she was happiest anytime her boys were in her presence. She was most proud of the men they became and the beautiful families they each created.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy — Joey Carroll, Courtney Carroll Tidwell and husband Ryan, Patrick Carroll and wife Kerrie, Kalee Carroll Coburn and husband David, and Jackson Carroll and wife Emily. She was also the proud great grandmother of eight; Tori Carroll, Layla Carroll, Joe Taft Carroll, Dobry Coburn, Lincoln Carroll, Jaley Carroll, Sutton Coburn and Baker Carroll.
An exceptional cook, her grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed visits to Mamaw’s house where there was guaranteed to be a strawberry cake or lemon icebox pie waiting for them. She loved to cook for her family as it was a time for everyone to gather around her kitchen table, enjoy a meal and talk with one another. Her grandchildren collectively agreed that no one made it better than Mamaw, whether it be a big homemade breakfast or simply a heated bowl of Campbell's chicken noodle soup. It just tasted better at Mamaw’s house.
Joanne was extraordinarily talented and enjoyed a variety of hobbies throughout her life. She cross-stitched beautifully, creating numerous pieces of art for her home and for her family. She loved traveling, a trip to Hawaii being one of her most memorable. Her vast collection of Moon and Stars glassware was impressive! She enjoyed collecting and displaying those special pieces in a variety of colors. Joanne was also an avid reader and could almost always be found in the middle of a Nicholas Sparks or Danielle Steel novel.
Her love for beautiful things extended outside her home, a variety of colorful plants and flowers always on her front porch and in beds throughout her yard. Her late husband Joe joked he would need to add an acre to the property to make room for Joanne’s flowerbeds-but he made sure to add lights to them all so that her work could be properly displayed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Carroll, her parents Harmon Arthur Naylor and Lois Tedford Naylor and her grandson Hunter Carroll. She is survived by her sisters Geraldine Rickman, Judy Raines, Linda Bias, and Wanda Wallace, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family extends the most sincere gratitude to Peggy Hastings and Marilyn Knight for their diligence & loving care over these last months.
