Joe Fulghum, age 85, of Bolivar, departed this life Wednesday evening, January 18, 2017 at Elmcroft Senior Living Center in Jackson, TN.
Mr. Fulghum was born on Friday, July 17, 1931, to the late Marcus and Myra Jacobs Fulghum in Bolivar where he lived most all of his life. He retired as a letter carrier from the United States Postal Service in 2000 following forty plus years of service. Joe was in the Boy Scouts of America for most of his life. He was instrumental in getting the scouts started in Bolivar and was active with Troop 92 and also was Scoutmaster for Troop 992. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he played football and served in the Army Corp of Engineers in the Virgin Islands and Labrador during the Korean war. He was a former deacon, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and worked with the Royal Ambassadors at the Bolivar First Baptist Church. He attended mission trips to Ecuador, Venezuela, and visited the Holy Lands. Mr. Fulghum was a quiet, hard working and good neighbor who enjoyed helping others.
He is survived by his son, Carter Fulghum of Mt. Juliet; two step-children, Alex Johnson (Janice) of Huntsville, AL, and Julianna Craft (Chris) of Arlington; his former wife, Joanne Brooks Fulghum of Bolivar; a sister, Myra Hazelgrove of Bolivar; a brother, Jerry Fulghum of Bolivar; and five step-grandchildren, John Hudson Craft, Ross Brooks Johnson, Anna Grace Johnson, Joanna Joy Craft, and Elijah Cade Craft.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Warr and Betty Blasingame; and four brothers, Robert, Marcus "Snooks", Ed, and Neely (infant) Fulghum.
