Joe Ervin Mitchell

Joe Ervin Mitchell was born December 15, 1930 in Selmer, TN the son of the late Alva D. Mitchell and Allie Bell Williams Mitchell. He was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Barnes on May 24, 1952. Mrs. Mitchell preceded him in death on August 13, 2005.

Mr. Mitchell was retired from Bell South Telecommunications and was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer and was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. He served in the Tennessee National Guard, was a former Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, a former McNairy County Jaycee, and a former McNairy County little league coach. He was a volunteer with the McNairy County Loaves and Fishes. Joe enjoyed farming, riding horses, traveling, and camping.

Mr. Mitchell departed this life on June 1, 2017 in Selmer at the age of 86 Years, 5 Months, 17 Days. He is survived by a son, Richard Mitchell and wife Pam of Selmer, TN; six grandchildren, Dustin Mitchell, Derik Mitchell, Malea Cacia, Heather Dickey, Lindsey Henson, Skyler Mitchell; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Sims; a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Dale Mitchell, Wendell Mitchell; a brother, Ralph Mitchell; a sister, Gearldine Sims.
