Mr. Joe C. Smith of Medon departed this life Monday afternoon, January 7, 2013 at the age of 92 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Hornsby August 20, 1922 to the late Grover Cleveland and Lucy Myrtle Ferguson Smith. A lifelong resident of the Medon area, he worked for the Bemis Cotton Mill prior to retirement. On July 7, 1965 he was united in marriage to Mamie Faye Smith, who preceded him in death February 12, 2011. He was a member of Forrest Hill Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include five sons, Billy Smith of Texas, Bobby Smith of Henderson, Jackie Smith and wife Cindy of Pinson, Eddie Smith and wife Martina of Huron, and Donald Smith and wife Carol of Murray, Kentucky; three sisters, Helen Cooper of Hornsby, Elsie Taylor of Crump and Ruth Parchman of Hornsby; seven grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Amber Smith, Chad Smith, Brad Smith, Erica Smith, Casey Smith and Hunter Smith; and six great-grandchildren, Khloe Butler, Parker Smith, Chilton Smith, Tanner Whitfield, Kyree Morris and Abriella Smith.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Harold Smith and three daughters, Judy Smith, Gladys Ruth Smith and Linda Smith.
