He was born and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Joe Milan and Etta Smith White. He attended schools in Chester County and farmed as a young man. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and was on a ship in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was married to Mary Jo Miller of Chester County in 1947. They made their home in Memphis. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Memphis from 1949 until 1958 as a machinist and in 1959 he went to work for International Harvester until his retirement in 1985. Mrs. White died in 1995 and Mr. White moved back to the Cave Springs Community of Chester County. He loved farming, fishing, being outdoors and to cook, especially making coconut pies. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by a daughter; Beverly Shears and husband Tommy of Henderson, TN; two grandchildren, Bryce Gilbert (Robin) of Williston, TN and Beth Haltom (Doug) of Jackson, TN; two step grandchildren, Laura Magowan (Clif) and Amy Brenner (Thomas) of Arlington, TN; great-grandchildren, Logan Gilbert, Haynes Haltom, Miller Haltom and soon to be Lily Grace Gilbert; step great-grandchildren, Brooke Magowan, Tanner Magowan, Carson Magowan and Emmy Brenner; and a sister, Johnnie Henson of Woodville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Miller White in 1995 and a sister, Maerene Gibson.
