John Butler Hinson, 77, of Jackson, Tennessee departed this life on Sunday, April 30, 2017 surrounded by family at the Hock Family Pavilion Hospice in Durham, North Carolina.
He is survived by Emily Vincent Hinson, his wife of 53 years; his daughter, Angela Hinson Heilman of Durham, NC; son, Col. John Bradley Hinson (Elizabeth) of Tampa, FL; and grandchildren Taylor Katherine Heilman and John Hunter Heilman.
He was born Dec. 12, 1939 in Henderson County, son of the late Earl Hicks Hinson and Mary Wilma Butler Hinson and lived most of his life in Tennessee. He returned to Jackson in December 2001, where he has lived ever since.
He was a 1958 graduate of Central High School of Bolivar and a 1962 graduate of Union University, Jackson, Tennessee.
He worked for Sears as a district manager for 38 years, retiring in 1993. He retired from the Army National Guard after 23 years of service.
He was a deacon of the East Union Baptist Church of Jackson and was an active member of the East Union Ruritan Club. He also enjoyed gardening and painting.
