Dr. John S. Jobe, age 51, of Florence, South Carolina died tragically on Sunday, August 23, 2015, when the small private airplane he was piloting crashed as he was attempting to land at South Arkansas Regional Airport near the town of El Dorado, Arkansas. John was born on June 23, 1964 to Wesley and Nell Jobe of Clifton, Wayne County, Tennessee.
After graduating from Frank Hughes High School in Clifton, he attended Freed-Hardeman University and the University of Tennessee at Memphis, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1991. He completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York, followed by a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Cytology Department. Dr. Jobe was Board Certified in Cytopathology, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, and was a partner at Pee Dee Pathology Associates in Florence, South Carolina, where he had lived and worked since 1997.
John was a skilled pilot with a life-long interest in and passion for aviation, and he was also an avid cyclist. Other hobbies and interests included hiking, traveling, classical and jazz music, and cooking. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and esteemed colleague of the highest integrity who was greatly loved, highly respected, and who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Nell Jobe. Survivors include his father, Edgar Wesley Jobe of Clifton, TN; two brothers, Charles Jobe of Nashville, TN, and Eddie Jobe of Santa Cruz, CA; a sister, Kristy Jobe Risener of Clifton, TN; his sister-in-law, Keri Fitzhugh-Jobe of Nashville; his niece and nephew, Laurel Jobe and Matthew Jobe of Nashville; and his nieces, Madison Risener and Allissa Risener of Waynesboro, Tennessee.
Friends may greet the family at Clifton (Tennessee) Church of Christ from 2 pm to 3 pm on Sunday, August 30th, 2015. A memorial service with a reception will follow the visitation at the church.
